I am an experienced doula who was trained at the Doula Training Academy, under the guidance of Vicki Hobbs and have since gone on to support birthing mothers at home, in the Family Birth Centre and in standard hospital settings. I have a deep love and appreciation for mothers, and aim to support women in birthing fearlessly, with trust and belief in their body’s ability to birth their baby.

As your Doula, I will work in harmony with both physiological and medicalised birth, providing non-judgemental evidence based information as well as continuous personalised one on one support so you can feel heard, respected and cared for at all times.

My primary role as your Doula will be to provide:

  • Education to help you make confident birth choices

  • Continuity of support and care

  • Advice on good nutrition and stretching

  • Suggest different labour and birthing positions

  • Provide natural pain relief methods

  • Reassurance and encouragement with positive affirmations

  • Breathing and relaxation techniques

  • Working through emotional blocks as they present

  • Maintain the special “birthing environment

  • Massage and acupressure points

  • Support for the birth partner so they can take a break without feeling guilty or anxious

  • Help you to prepare a simple but effective birth plan

  • Take photos when appropriate (if it is not impacting on my role to support you as your Doula)

  • Extensive resources and library

  • Email and phone support

POST-PARTUM SUPPORT

Beginning your postnatal journey calm, supported, nourished and rested allows you the time to get to know your precious baby as well as adjust to your new role as a mother.

The fourth trimester is a time of recovery and healing after birth and is just as important for the health, happiness and growth of both mum and baby. In the fourth trimester a woman is in need of as much support and guidance as her newborn baby.

There are many physical, hormonal and emotional changes occuring and care and attention needs to be devoted to supporting new mothers during this time. As Julia Jones from Newborn mothers says: “the postpartum period is a time for the mother to rest, regain strength and care for her baby.” As babies grow so does the confidence of a mother. This healing postpartum time is a necessity, not a luxury.

Doulas are deeply familiar with and experienced in the intricacies of the postpartum period and can provide tailored care, while holding space for this sacred time.

Each postpartum visit lasts for a minimum of 3 hours and is tailored to the needs of the mother and her family and may include: newborn feeding support, meal preparation in line with Ayurvedic cooking theories, baby bathing and care while parents undertake self-care, and cleaning/folding laundry/other household tasks.

"After a traumatic first birth, I was determined to have a different experience. Best decision we ever made was having our doula, Tanith Forte.

Tan was a wealth of knowledge, sharing resources and always supporting our final choices. On game day, Tan helped me and Tom stay calm (eg. We wanted to go to hospital 4am but arrived 6:30pm) and whenever I doubted myself she could somehow read my mind and a new distraction would arrive. The midwives and OB loved working with her.

Tanith Forte, thank you forever. If you are pregnant & considering the same cuddle I got, reach out.”
